About Me

ME: Roy Skaria, affectionately referred to as COUGAR. Chatty and easy-goin, make friends easily. I respect no boundaries, so can be a culture shock for someone who isnt used to the COUGAR! But i am harmless! REALLY!

Bageshwar

Profession: Worked independently for over 3 years selling custom made Accounting and Order Management software to SME’s (Small and Medium Enterprises) before joining an internet startup. Spent 4 years working in various startups learning the ropes before quitting in late 2008 to start my own venture. I specialise in eBusiness application development with added experience in ERP integration and Business Intelligence and over the next 5 years intend to build a product around this. However that is just what I do for a living!!

Passions: My pet passions are Photography and Touring.Have been passionate about touring by bike and photography from a very long time: First started touring on my Yamaha while looking for new photography opportunities, but really started serious touring once my beloved Enfield, “Dougie” entered my life. Been on my Enfield to Leh, Kanyakumari and most places in between! So often that friends now call me “LP” for “Lonely Planet” since I seem to know the road map by heart!! Now with “Yossarian”, my brand new Gypsy, taking this passion to the next level!

Photography: Have just started exploring commercial photography. It all started with a couple of enquiries for my photographs taken on some small rides i went on. But thanks to good buddies into photography have since gone further with a couple of assignments which have gone reasonably well! Shooting nudes has been especially interesting! ;)

My Bike(s): First bike I owned was a Yamaha RX-Z purchased in 1998. Still have it and still use it for city riding. I find the light weight but extremely peppy Yam a much better option for city riding. I did my first “long” rides on this bike although for business rather than pleasure.

DOUGIE: I was looking around for a bike to pursue my interest in touring and first zeroed in on the Enfield around June ‘04. Must confess to have test ridden “competition” (Karizma, Pulsar 180 etc) but surrounded by macho types meant the decision was pretty much made. But things didnt quite go the way I thought they would. I walked into Pune’s “Perfect Motors” (Sick place btw), looking to pick up a Std-500 which I was planning to kit out like bhai’s bike (18″ wheels, VM’s and all zat). But instead walked out with a gleaming Thunderbird: DOUGIE! Never once regretted that decision. Dont get me wrong: i think the Standard 500 is an awesome beast. Tags like “State of the art”, “Antique” (and a new one “Farm Equipment” tee hee!!) are just jibes I reserve for the most insecure among the Standard riders (and there is no shortage of those he he!!)

Yossarian:
Growing up, my idea of a “real car” was a Premier 118NE. In college, it changed to a Maruti Esteem, to be pimped up in my own special way! However a visit to a forest near Chandrapur introduced me to the phenomenon called the Maruti Gypsy, and life as they say was never the same again! After a futile 2 year search for the elusive “second hand gypsy in good condition”, i finally gave up and plonked down a good part of my lifes savings into a brand spanking new gypsy which arrived a good 11 months later! Was reading a rather interesting book at the time he arrived, so named him after a character in that book: YOSSARIAN. Since then he has been my constant companion on my tours into the wild!

Entertainment: Love reading and you will usually find me curled up with a book when not doing anything else. Avoid fiction and philosophy books like the plague. Prefer non-fiction. Like all music except noise passing off as “Heavy Metal”.s12 Not ashamed to admit that I like Indian film music. Films: love films and have a huge DVD collection of movies(kept securely out of reach of kleptomaniacs) of all genres: war, horror AND porn (again all genres!!) . Specially treasured: MASH (the TV series copied from VHS) and Kurosawa.
